Housing Consumers

The federal Fair Housing Act (FHA) provides protection, equal opportunity, and discrimination free housing on the basis of: race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and familial status. In WA State, the Washington Law Against Discrimination (WLAD) gives additional housing protections for: marital status, sexual orientation/gender identity, and veteran/military status.
You Have Fair Housing Rights
If you experience discrimination, you have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development or the WA State Human Rights Commission.
